The Verein für Socialpolitik has awarded a medal of honour to members who have rendered outstanding service to the association. 

The medal of honour is named after Gustav Schmoller, one of the founding fathers and long-standing chairman of the Verein für Socialpolitik.

The awarding of the medal of honour was discontinued in 2026 and replaced by honorary membership of the association.
