In focus: Data Access

The German data infrastructure is in need of improvement. In six statements, the VfS analyzes the most pressing issues and suggests solutions that deserve attention in the development of the new Research Data Act (Forschungsdatengesetz).

A survey conducted among the members of the Verein für Socialpolitik in January 2023 revealed that many researchers consider the opportunities in Germany to use data for research to be inadequate. However, high-quality data is a basic prerequisite for excellent empirical research and evidence-based policy advice.

The Verein für Socialpolitik has issued six statements on the most pressing issues that include concrete proposals for solutions that deserve attention in the upcoming development of the Research Data Act (Forschungsdatengesetz).
