Schmölders Award 2024

This year, the VfS Standing Field Committee on Economic History selected Maria Waldinger as the recipient of the Schmölders Award. Congratulations!

The Schmölders Award, endowed with 3,000 € by the Schmölders Foundation for Behavioral Research in Economic Life (Schmölders-Stiftung für Verhaltensforschung im Wirtschaftsleben), is awarded annually in rotation by the VfS Standing Field Committees on Social Science, Public Economics, and Economic History.

The prize is awarded for outstanding papers by members of the Verein für Socialpolitik. This year, the prize was awarded by the Economic History Committee. As such, papers characterized by originality and a high academic standard from the field of economic history could be submitted as nominees. Submitted essays must already be published or accepted for publication. The year of publication must not be more than three calendar years ago.

This year, the prize was awarded to Maria Waldinger for her paper "The Economic Effects of Long-Term Climate Change: Evidence from the Little Ice Age" and presented at the committee meeting on March 8, 2024 in Cologne. Our warmest congratulations!
