How to become a member

The Verein fuer Socialpolitik is a non-profit organisation. Anyone who supports the association's goals and adheres to its ethical principles can apply for a membership.

According to § 4 of the statutes (in German only), the membership is not limited in time and therefore will not end without giving notice.

The member obliges the Code of Ethics of the Verein fuer Socialpolitik. Please note the statutes of the association. A resignation is possible with a notice of two months to the end of a calendar year. The annual membership fee must have been paid at least once.

Benefit from a reduced participation fee for attending the association's annual conference.

Subscription to the Associations´ Journals

Membership includes a subscription to both journals of the association, German Economic Review and Perspektiven der Wirtschaftspolitik. Members in the EU automatically get an online access to the content of the journals via our homepage. Members in Germany, Austria and Switzerland can choose to get an online or both a print and an online subscription.

Get in touch and stay connected

You can expand your network by using the member register of our homepage and benefit from our conference calendar and job market. You can use your voting rights to influence the politics of the association. As a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik you will receive regular information on the association e.g. about upcoming elections and the invoice on the membership fee. Your personal data will be deleted after the termination of the membership.

Conference Subsidy Program

Younger members who currently pay reduced membership fees can also benefit from the conference subsidy program.

Annual Membership Fee

Full Membership Fee 97 €

Reduced Membership Fee 52 €*

*offered to members who have not yet reached the age of 40. A reduction will not be granted if the member already holds a W2/W3 or an adjunct professorship (Germany), an associate, a university or an extraordinary professorship (Austria), or an (extra-)ordinary professorship (Switzerland).

General: the membership fee includes a journal subscription fee and a donation. If the print edition of the journals is rejected, the contribution is reduced accordingly.

Members from in the EU (outside the D-A-CH region) only have an online access. In this case, we only invoice the online subscription. Members from third countries pay only the donation share of €63 (full member) or €30 (reduced member).

Please note: The Verein fuer Socialpolitik issues invoices for the membership only once a year for all members. Please only make a payment when you have received an invoice, therefore we ask especially our new members for a little patience.

The free electronic form of the membership list shall only be used in the interests of the Association. The Verein fuer Socialpolitik does not allow you to export any files, the contents are for personal, non-commercial purposes. The data of your user account has to be kept in confidence for an indefinite time and may not be given to unauthorized third parties.

Stay in touch with us!

Your questions about the association and your membership will be answered by the office.

You will receive regular e-mails from us reporting on the life of the association, enabling participation in elections and informing you about the VfS annual meeting. If your membership expires, e.g. due to your cancellation, your data will be deleted. Please keep your data, especially your e-mail address, up to date.

Information from the electronic membership directory may only be used for personal use and to establish contact with regard to scientific networking and may not be passed on to third parties.
