The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Chair of Macroeconomics is searching for a new Research Associate in Economics (m/f/d) to join our team at the earliest date possible, preferably from October 2020 onwards.

(Full-time position, 40 hours a week, 3 years fixed-term contract, opportunity to obtain a doctoral de-gree)

About us:
The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe Chair of Macroeconomics consists of a committed team, pursuing a wide variety of research and teaching activities. Our research is focused primarily at the intersection of envi-ronmental economics, international trade and competitiveness, analyzing issues such as the effects of en-vironmental policies on trade flows, innovation activity, and labor markets. In our classes, we aim to pro-vide students with a thorough understanding of the principles and models of economic reasoning in the fields of macroeconomics, international economics, and competitiveness. Moreover, we teach classes on statistical methods to facilitate the empirical application of this knowledge.

Your tasks and doctoral studies:
During your time at the chair, you will contribute to both research and teaching activities. On the one hand, you will participate in empirical research projects, and prepare high-quality academic and prac-tice-orientated publications. On the other hand, you will support the preparation of lectures and super-vise students with their master's thesis and practical projects. In conjunction with the position, you will be given the opportunity to pursue a doctorate. As part of HHL’s doctoral program, you will meet stu-dents from all over the world with diverse experience in both academia and business practice, and be-come part of the global network.

Your profile:
We are looking for a candidate with an above-average university degree in economics (or a related field), who is dedicated and proactive, has a keen interest in scientific work, and is comfortable with applying quantitative methods. Ideally, your main interest is in environmental or climate economics as well as fields related to competitiveness. Knowledge in macroeconomics and international economics will be an asset when supporting the teaching activities. While you are fluent in English, knowledge of German is desirable but not essential.

We offer you, among other things, a professional and inspiring work environment as well as close inte-gration into research networks and transfer projects. We are looking forward to receiving your applica-tion (Cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and, if possible, an example of a prior academic paper), which we request you to send via e-mail to until August 22, 2020.
